Coronavirus Update

This letter serves to inform you that as of 03/20/2020, Magic Exterminating and the entire pest control industry has been deemed as an essential business by Homeland Security and will continue to service accounts on an uninterrupted service schedule (click here for documentation from Homeland Security). Please know that as protectors of public health, food and property, we take our role in safeguarding your quality of life very seriously. Pest control professionals are responsible for protecting against rodents, insects, arachnids and other animals that can damage property and threaten people's health through the spread of disease and bacteria, in addition to inflicting painful bites and stings. Our critical services extend into people's homes and businesses, as well as major commercial operations such as healthcare facilities, food processing facilities and more. Our office personnel are working from home, Managers and Field Technicians are Essential Personnel will continue to service accounts.

Thank you for entrusting us with the health and well-being of your place of home and business as we work together as a community and nation to better understand and mitigate the spread of the novel Coronavirus, we are all being asked to adhere to new guidelines and to do our best to practice social distancing.

We strongly encourage everyone to follow the advice set forth by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and our government leaders. As an organization, we are taking additional measures to ensure we provide the best level of protection for both our customers and our employees. Dear NYPMA & NPMA Members and all Non-Members,

Since the recent Governor's Executive Order 202.6, signed yesterday, your association, New York Pest Management Association, has been working diligently to quickly get the pest management industry explicitly listed as an essential service. As of this Saturday evening we received a response from the Empire State Development to the attached email that said

"Spraying for ticks and mosquitos and extermination of pests is being allowed."

We ask that you keep the above information on file and please also share the below with your staff should you receive questions.

Essential service definition excerpt per Executive Oder 202.6: Essential services necessary to maintain the safety, sanitation and essential operations of residence.

Additionally, pest control and extermination services have been deemed essential by the United States Department of Homeland Security in their Memorandum released earlier this week. (Since there is not currently a federal shelter in place mandate, the NY State Order language currently takes precedent.)

From Victoria Majchrzak, Project Manager, New York City Regional Office, Empire State Development: Thank you for seeking designation as an "essential business" pursuant to the revised New York State Executive Order 202.6 with respect to your business function of essential services necessary to maintain the safety, sanitation and essential operations of residences or other essential businesses including pest management. Based on the information you have provided, that business function is already an essential business and does not require further determination. However, the designation as essential is solely with respect to those employees that must be present at the business location to support essential business activities. No other employees/personnel shall be permitted to work from your business's location and any other business activities being completed at your location that are not essential are still subject to the revised Executive Order 202.6. Please continue to comply with all other Executive Orders and recommendations from the New York State Department of Health.

From Meghan A. Taylor VP, Regional Director, Mid-Hudson Office, Empire State Development: Thank you for seeking designation as an "essential business" pursuant to the New York State Executive Order 202.6 with respect to your business function of pest control. Based on the information you have provided, that business function is an essential business and is not subject to the required 75% workforce reduction pursuant to Executive Order 202.6. Any other lines of business that are not essential are still subject to Executive Order 202.6. Please continue to comply with all other Executive Orders and recommendations from the New York State Department of Health and please consider reducing your workforce to the extent practicable.

Vincent Esposito, VP, Regional Director, Finger Lakes Regional Office, Empire State Development: Thank you for seeking designation as an "essential business" pursuant to the New York State Executive Order 202.6. Based on the information you have provided, your business enterprise is already an essential an essential business and does not require a further determination. Please continue to comply with all other Executive Orders and recommendations from the New York State Department of Health.

Elizabeth Muehlemann, Economic Development Specialist, Long Island Office, Empire State Development: Thank you for seeking designation as an "essential business" pursuant to the revised New York State Executive Order 202.6 with respect to your business function of providing pest control in emergency situations. Based on the information you have provided, that business function is an essential business and/or supports an essential business and is not subject to the required 100% workforce reduction pursuant to the revised Executive Order 202.6. However, your business has been designated as essential solely with respect to those employees that must be present at the business location in support of essential business activities. No other employees/personnel shall be permitted to work from your business's location. Any other business activities being completed at your location that are not essential are still subject to the revised Executive Order 202.6. Please continue to comply with all other Executive Orders and recommendations from the New York State Department of Health and please consider reducing your workforce to the extent practicable.
